2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid.

Back in early 2022, when the new Mazda CX-50 was introduced, Mazda had mentioned a
version “Coming soon”. Now, about 2 1/2 years later, we finally hear a bit more about the new Mazda CX-50 Hybrid .
As expected, it will be using the Toyota powertrain from the Toyota RAV4. The only specs Mazda has released so far is the 38MPG average. And that it offers 100 miles of extra range compared to the 2.5 Liter version.
They have also released official pricing for all 2025 models available, including the Hybrid trims. As you can see, the Hybrid powertrain isn’t a cheap option at $2,320 over the regular engine. And again, the panoramic sunroof is only available with the Premium or Premium Plus trims. Mazda sold 44,600 units of the CX-50 last year. This sounds OK until you compare that number to the 153,808 units of the 7-year-old Mazda CX-5 sold that same year.
I guess adding Hybrid versions could only help sales. Subaru will soon do the same thing with the Forester, also using a Toyota powertrain…
These hybrid prices aren’t too bad considering that its easily within target for the very competitive CRV hybrid. The real question will be whether the Toyota powertrain feels relatively at home in a Mazda product. Regardless, Mazda needs this. While the CX-90/CX-70 twins has been a relative success, its in this pricing category that they need a hybrid now. Can’t wait until you test drive one.
