Cadillac Eldorado.

Last Updated:

Cadillac is currently working on two new EV projects. And apparently, according to GM design director Brian Smith, we might see one of these “soon”…

And no, this new Cadillac we’ll be seeing soon is probably not a new Eldorado coupe. Although that would be fun. It will most likely be one of the 2 new Ultium-based sedans they’ve been working on for a while. Since they now cover pretty much every single SUV segment known to man with the Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq, and Escalade IQ. They can’t really come up with something cheaper than the Optic as a luxury brand. The only new models they can come up with are sedans.

And yet, why not a cool large and old fashion coupe like an Eldorado. The illustration above shows a very simple design of what a new 2 door Cadillac could look like. Something that wouldn’t cost the price of a Rolls Royce like the new Celestiq.

Like many famous Cadillac models, the Eldorado started life in the 1950s. Back when American luxury cars were insanely large and heavy. But also the envy of car fans all around the world. These were days long before Mercedes or even BMW were popular, especially in the US. Also, these giant chariots were barely getting 10MPG.

The Eldorado started shrinking for its 10th generation in 1979 but still looked great and quite imposing. However, by 1986, the much smaller 11th generation just looked ridiculous. By then it seems Cadillac in general was quite lost.

Cadillac was working on a new beautiful coupe a few years ago, which ended up being a concept they only showed a few months ago. Like it, they were ashamed of it. Or maybe the opposite, it looked so good it made the CT5 sedan look even worse.

Let’s hope someone at GM goes nuts and pushes for a new coupe. A new Cadillac coupe…

  1. If Cadillac comes out with the El Dorado or a coupe, I would definitely buy it and sell my LC 500 and 2011 Cadillac CTSV

  2. A large “old fashioned” coupe would be a nice halo vehicle for Cadillac. Hopefully it would be a hybrid – some distinction among the luxury coupes available. Also, since the herd of luxury SUV/CUVs is a saturated market, it would also give them a unique offering, outside of that box.

  3. Well as me being a since childhood Cadillac enthusiastic fan of many different body styles that came, I’m also hoping Cadillac reclaim the bigger sedan segment of pure style comfort and luxury with a all new full size Fleetwood sedan 4 door pure updated new technology styled family rebuilt 80s and early 90s Fleetwood de’elegance same body style sharper deeper bold lines new tail lighted back end full light show multi designed never seen before back lights that even looks like the old fin and wings type look that you can see a mile away from behind making it to be a lighted rearend tail light show, with new blinking, strobe like, moving back and forth, LED extravagant with new projector style square as before headlights that has a brighter multi look style that you know it’s a Cadillac that resemble a mad cat with hazel white and orange brown eye lids making the new Fleetwood look like it’s back madder that ever with a real eye blinking type look ever seconds would be nice…

  4. I just hope Cadillac decides to remake our all time favorite 79 coupe DeVille, the 88 to 91 Fleetwood de’elegance, the slant back Seville perhaps with that back trunk tire like shape in a new upgraded style , and a limited edition convertible elderado in its all new bold deeper lines and pure top luxury that stands above the rest…

  5. The problem is see within GM and I can also say Ford too they are guilty as well, ever since both companies decided to abandon rear drive passenger cars albeit the Camaro, the C8 the CT4 CT5 and the Mustang they refuse to bring back anything fun. Chevy refuses to bring back a rear drive Malibu or a new Impala SS or an El Camino. Not even a new Buick GNX. Ford will never bring back the Crown Vic nor a new Ranchero. Hell Ford was suppose to do a new Taurus using the CD6 rear drive platform from the new Explorer but that never happen. So much potential out there but neither company wants to budge
