There is good news and bad news here.
The good is that this is an all-new BMW 5 Series EV wagon. Which by itself should be great news. Wagons are rare and electric ones are almost non-existent, except the Nio ET5 Touring. Otherwise, I cannot think of any other. It also beats the upcoming Audi A6 e-Tron Wagon to the punch, and the new Audi EV will be offered as a hatchback sedan as well as a wagon.
The bad news is the fact that it is based on the ghastly BMW 5 series. Which, in my opinion, is one of the worst-looking sedan designs currently roaming the planet. Inside and out, the new 5 series seems to be a poster child for everything that is currently wrong with BMW designs. It is overdone in every what possible to the point of vulgarity. the amount of unnecessary black plastic trim is unbelievable.
Yes, I really like the fact that an EV wagon is now available. It is just too bad it is a BMW…Besides the new Audi A6 e-Tron, I cannot think of another EV wagon coming soon. But one thing is sure, the Audi is based on the gorgeous A6 e-Tron Avant concept and will have no problem looking 100 times better than the BMW mess pictured above.
This is actually pretty sad. What an expensive mess…
Taycan cross-turismo doesn’t count?
I think it’s looks fantastic and so does the new 5-Series in general. BMW always mixes things up after years of slow evolutions. The new BMW will grow on many people I suspect.
