New Acura EV.

Last Updated:

Acura just released a teaser for a new EV concept that will be revealed at the Monterey Car Week.

It will be a concept version of an upcoming all-new production model. That basically sounds like an Acura version of the future Honda 0 Series we should see late next year.

Here is the official word from Acura:

Acura will once again take center stage during Monterey Car Week for the world debut of an exciting new concept vehicle. A segment-defying sport utility vehicle, the dynamically styled concept previews the performance brand’s next generation all-electric model, the first to be built in Ohio on the company’s new dedicated EV platform.”

To me, this could explain the disappointing news about the 2025 Acura RDX we saw this week. The “revised” 2025 model comes with very few changes, and Acura didn’t even replace the awful trackpad like they just did on the MDX. I truly think what we will soon see in Monterey is a preview of the upcoming Acura RDX replacement. By the time it comes out as a production model, in a bit over a year, the RDX will be ripped for a successor.

The current RDX starts at around $46,000. Or the same as a $56,000 EV with all available incentives. Or $53,500 if you don’t include local state incentives. Acura can offer a new RDX EV replacement in that price range. (Cadillac’s new Optiq will start at $54,000 including AWD and Super Cruise.)

Such a new Acura EV will indeed replace the RDX in Acura’s lineup. By the time it comes out, it could even include NACS plugs making it compatible with all Tesla Chargers in the country.

I can’t wait to see this…

  1. I can’t wait to see this either. I think you’re exactly right about this being the RDX replacement, as part of their original plan. However, I do think Acura is going to need to plan on another couple generations of ICE+hybrid for its models, and CEO Mibe did mention the development of e-AWD which could provide a systems update to the eSH-AWD of Acura’s Sport Hybrids. But what I’m really excited about is that this seems to do away with the terrible Precision Concept styling and all its gimmicks (“chicane”), in favor of a really modern design.

  2. “segment-defying sport utility vehicle”
ah yes, because as we all know, this “segment” is really struggling with a lack of sport utility vehicles to choose from these days 🙄
