2025 Nissan Armada.
Last Updated:
After 8 years, Nissan has finally redesigned the big Armada/Patrol SUV. It is now the Nissan version of the redesigned Infiniti QX80 we saw a few months ago.
As you can tell from the photos above, the Nissan and Infiniti versions still look very close. Although at least they have different rear pillars on top of their own front and rear ends. And I think the Nissan version looks much better than the ghastly Infiniti.
And just like the Infiniti, the new Armada ditches the good old V8 for a 3.5 Liter Turbo V6 with 425HP. AWD is still an option and RWD is standard. Prices should start around $60,000, all the way to above $80,000. In contrast, the Infiniti starts at $82,500.
Its main competition will be the revised Chevrolet Tahoe, starting at around $58,000. While its luxury cousin, the Cadillac Escalade will now start at over $87,000.
I think the new Armada will actually spell bad news for the Infiniti QX80. It seems the Nissan interior is also a nicer and slightly more modern place to be. The QX80 is just a super cheesed-up version of the Nissan with no real advantages and almost the exact same interior. While, at least, the Escalade interior is unique and very different from the cheaper Chevrolet Tahoe.
With under 13,000 sold last year, the Infiniti QX80 is far from a hit. The armada sold over 21,000 units the same year and I think it has more room to grow than the Infiniti. A much more attractive base price than the Infiniti and a brand-new design will probably put it back on many buyers’ map. While the Infiniti could just linger in dealers’ lots with huge discounts. It looks like Nissan should have made more of an effort and spent a bit more money on making the QX80 more unique.
Another very strange marketing move from Nissan/Infiniti…
It’s amazing how much worse the Infinity looks. But I guess it doesn’t matter since Infinity is pretty much a dead brand now… such a shame. I’m old enough to remember they use to have some outstanding cars.
I have a feeling this could be a good seller for Nissan. This is a direct competitor for the LC 300 in a lot of overseas markets. And with Toyota jacking up the prices dramatically on everything with less then stellar designs and a 4 banger in almost everything, Nissan looks a lot more attractive right now.
This very well could be my next car… and first Nissan ever.
