Cadillac Deville.

Last Updated:

This illustration shows what a new large Cadillac Deville sedan based on an updated version of the Ultium platform (like all Cadillac models will be) could look like. A finless large Cadillac with horizontal tail lights might ruffle some feathers. And why not…

At various times in its long history, the DeVille series was available as a 4-door sedan, a 2-door coupe, and a 2-door convertible. Through many generations, the sedan was produced from 1949 to 2006. The 2-door coupe was dropped by 1993.

Up to 1977, the 2 door Coupe DeVille was often more popular than the sedan. Something hard to imagine these days when 2 door cars are very rare in general. These large sedans were always pretty popular for Cadillac, with over 100,000 units sold most years. Of course, sales started going down in the early 2000s. And while the CT6 was a better car than the DeVille ever was, sales numbers never went over 10,542 units back in 2017.

Of course, large sedans are far from the most popular things these days, but I really think a new large Cadillac sedan could really work in the EV age. Something costing less than a Mercedes S-Class or BMW i7. And something very different from the crazy expensive $340,000 Cadillac Celestiq. I think there is a market for an under $100,000 large modern EV sedan. Something that competes against the Lucid Air and the aging Tesla Model S. You know, the one that is rumored to be “getting some love” later this year.

Cadillac has shown sketches of possible future design directions, and they all look good. Let’s hope the upcoming 2 new EV sedans we know they are working on will be a step in the right direction.

At least, it’s wonderful to know they are not just working on EVs.

  1. Not a fan of Caddy’s interpretation of the floating rear roofline, here or in their other cars (Lyriq). The Celestiq at its pricepoint seems like maybe they should have tried something different in the low-to-mid $100k range first. I just have a feeling that car will never be actually built.

  2. Recently obtained a ’90 Sedan DeVille. Feels like I’m driving gold, a true blessing. My 2024 Crosstrek has less features, less swah, though I still love it. Would love to see Cadillac bring back the DeVille
For it to be successful, I would say it needs to be recognizable as a DeVille from a block away AND last longer than 100k mileage, comfortably.

  3. The Cadillac brand, is a better investment than any other vehicle, these vehicles last longer than most car brands, and are more reliable in 2025.

  4. If Cadillac would go back to the great designs of the ’58 thru ’60’s, they probably would sell more than any of today’s ” cookie cutter ” cars. You can’t even tell cars apart today unless you read the name on the fender. Too bad the days of real style is gone.

  5. Yes Jerry,
GM hasn’t given Cadillac the freedom, to build ,truly beautiful, identifiable, built to last, quality Thruout, luxurious automobiles (Not cars, Automobiles) with their own engines,
their own interiors, in a long, long time…Remember the sporty, yet luxurious, totally on
It’s own, Coupe De Ville!? I loved my Coupe De Ville’s, and so did the folks who would
walk across the parking lot, to look at them, talk about them, ask if I’d raise the hood.
Yes, I deeply miss, my awesome, all American RWD, V-8, two door hardtop Coupe
De Ville’s by Cadillac…and I’ll bet the folks who would walk across the parking lot, to
talk about them, drool over them, wish they had one too

  6. I would love to see this car made. Looks very elegant and modern. Rear end looks a little MB Maybxh like, but still it’s a beautiful rendering

  7. Happy to see Cadillac going back to the names… Fleetwood, DeVille, EL Dorado etc. Hope the body styles reflect the former Cadillac name and style!y dad has a DeVille and my uncle had a 2007( before he died) off white with Chrome wheels DTS which was a beautiful car. Wishing you all the best! Bobby Thomas 9499-80 W Mayfield, Kentucky 42066

  8. I loved the Fleetwood of 80’s and Devilles and DTS og 2007…off white and Chrome wheels!!! El Dorado were nice as well! Bring Cadillac back to a 🌍 world standard car! I hope that it will become more popular than Lexus, Mercedes, BMW etc. #Cadillacstyle

  9. d’ Eligance, best car caddy ever produced. Most recognized luxury car on TV or the movies.

  10. I had a brand new 1974 coup deville beautiful car fire mist red white interior I love that car.

  11. Any new large sedan should have suicide doors like the iconic Continental of the 60’s.

  12. I would love to buy this car with GMs outstanding 3.6 V6 or even better their small V8. When I travel I don’t want to be stranded at a EV station or have to limit myself to the miles a battery can take me. Get a grip Cadillac!

  13. I hope GM see sense in moving Cadillac up a level to compete with Bentley and Maybach.
The smallest car should be an S-class size.
    Think Genesis G90 and GV90.

  14. Cadillac lost its way decades ago when it abandoned elegance and true style to become a collection of glorified “trucks”. Bland styling, choice of only 6-8 bland colors (red, black, white, muddy grey, muddy brown & muddy gold). Cadillacs are still well equipped, comfortable & reliable, but very indistinctive no cars. I can say this because I’ve owned 3 of them.

No elegant model names—- just confusing number/letter designations. The new designs (I.e. the Lyriq) are tortured & look like they’ve been rear ended by a Ford! GM should replace the bean counters with true “car people” & bring Cadillac back to its former glory.
