2027 Chevrolet Trax.

It sure looks like the Chevrolet Trax will be getting a few changes for the 2027 model year. Since Chevrolet has already launched the 2026 model year Trax in South Korea, with very minor changes for the 2026 model year, like color and trim revisions.

Prototypes were caught in Korea, where the Trax and its cousin, the Buick Encore, are built. The current model is a 2nd generation that came out in 2023. It is powered by a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder Turbo engine with 137HP. There is no AWD option for the Trax.

The 2025 model just saw a price increase due to tariffs. It seems that might be a trend continuing for the 2027 revisions.

A great update would be the addition of a Hybrid Powertrain. Which is something GM does offer in some Chinese market Chevrolet models. But I wouldn’t count on it. As the Trax’s purpose is mainly to be cheap. And it is quite successful as it is. With over 200,000 units sold last year alone. Which is almost double what the number was in 2023! Sales are still increasing, with 120,000 of them sold so far this year.

These are quite amazing numbers. Especially since the first generation’s best year was 2020, with 106,000 units sold that year.

I could see why GM isn’t in a hurry to change anything or even add features like a Hybrid trim. The main focus is probably to keep the price down…

  1. They don’t need to change a lot with this design because even a few years into this generation, it’s still quite a looker for a small crossover (it’s actually more like a raised wagon when you see it in person). I do think the way GM is handling this vehicle shows a stark contrast to the way Ford runs. For instance, with the very popular Maverick, they have a bunch of trim levels and many of them change the look of the truck significantly, while also bumping it’s price quite a bit. GM should at least consider something similar with the Trax. Unique trim packages help keep the design fresh and help their model line.

  2. This is a great looking little rig, and would almost convince me to try a GM product, if it weren’t for the absolutely awful reliability reviews and customer horror stories I see everywhere for the current-gen Trax/Trailblazer and Encore GX/Envista models! At least two people I know personally have returned their Trax and Envista within 6 months of purchase under lemon laws. It’s a shame, because the prices are almost unheard of for this class of vehicle. And they look really nice too.
