Porsche Panamera EV.

Last Updated:

A few years ago, Porsche decided to go all in on EVs. After the early success of the Taycan, you could blame them.

It took them years to get another EV in the lineup, with the Macan EV introduced in January 2024. While much more expensive than the older gas Macan (by about $20,000 in the US), the EV model now outsells the older Macan, which is still offered until next year. (It’s already been discontinued in Europe).

Next, we’ll have a new Porsche 718 Coupe and Convertible EVs. These are scheduled to completely replace the ICE models that are going away before the end of this year.

The new Cayenne EV is right around the corner. However, Porsche decided to keep the much older ICE model in production. And offer both for a few years.

Now we hear the next-generation Panamera sedan will also switch to an EV. With the current ICE model was sold alongside the EV for a few years as well. As usual, the Panamera EV will cost more than the ICE versions, but also more than the Taycan. Which currently starts at an insane $104,000 in the US. While the ICE Panamera currently starts at over $110,000. We might be talking about a $130,000 car when the EV generation comes out.

A Panamera EV will also face some competition. The Lucid Air is an amazing car that keeps improving. For mostly far less money than the Panamera EV could be. A new Polestar 5 fastback sedan is also right around the corner. It seems that by the time it comes out, a Panamera EV could only attract a few very wealthy Porsche fans who would even look at anything else. The 911 is a unique legend. But a Panamera EV would have to battle with a few much more affordable models around the world. And something like this would have close to zero chance in the very important Chinese market. Where Porsche is currently struggling pretty badly…
