2027 Infiniti Q50 news.

Last Updated:

As we mentioned earlier, Infiniti is actually bringing the Q50 sedan back.

A strange bit of news in a world where SUVs are king and the sedan market is shrinking. Especially expensive sport sedans.

Infiniti‘s Vice President just officially mentioned the company is currently working on the new car. In Japan, Nissan just unveiled a special edition of the Skyline sedan, which is the same car as the Infiniti Q50. While the car was canceled in the US last year, the Japanese version is still being produced. The new version is called R400.

The next-generation Q50/Skyline will most certainly not be an all-new car. It will probably be similar to what Nissan did with the current Nissan Z, which is heavily based on the previous generation and even uses many similar parts. Which makes sense since most resources are being spent on EVs and Hybrids these days.

I guess Infiniti sees a way to stay relevant by offering a new sport sedan, for some reason. Sales had gone down to under 5,500 units in its last year. Quite a drop from 10 years earlier, with over 43,000 of them sold.

I’m really not sure who will actually buy a new Q50. A brand new 3 Series BMW is coming next year. And that car will pretty much get most of the sport sedan market to itself. And we still have a Mercedes C-Class and an Audi A5. Genesis is also rumored to cancel the G70 after the current generation. And who knows how long the Lexus IS will last.

The illustration above shows what a new, redesigned Infiniti Q50 could look like.

  1. Infiniti slayed the sedan market once upon a time. Never did they do well with SUVs.

Remember… Infiniti was reaching all-time highs for sales 5 years ago, not in the 1990s!

  2. Five years ago, any car was highly desired and makers pushed the most heavily loaded products. Profits were at an all time high. Its amazing that things turned so fast for Nissan and that cash surplus was squandered.
