Cadillac Eldorado Convertible.

The illustration above shows what a possible new version of the legendary Cadillac Eldorado could look like as a convertible. Something Cadillac hasn’t produced for decades.
The first Eldorado was introduced as a limited edition convertible in 1953. And became a high-end trim or another Cadillac model starting in 1954.
That last 1976 model was part of the 9th generation, produced from 1971 to 1978. GM advertised the 1976 Eldorado Convertible model as “the last American convertible”, which of course turned out to be wrong.
The next generation ended up offering a convertible version starting in 1984. Although these were actually built by independent coachbuilders and not GM directly. And of course, later came the Cadillac Allante, which was a 2 seater convertible created to compete against the Mercedes SL.
A new Eldorado convertible would be a hyper-expensive car like the new Cadillac Celestiq. Which, at over $340,000, competes against Rolls Royce. If GM decides to ever produce the Solei Concept convertible, it would be even more expensive. An Eldorado convertible wouldn’t have much competition these days. Since the Mercedes S-Class coupe and convertible are gone. And the BME 8 series is on its way out. I guess the only one left in that segment is the Lexus LC convertible and its super tiny rear seats.
As we mentioned before, Cadillac is indeed working on a couple of new sedans based on the Ultium platform. There is no info available yet on these new models, except they will offer a fastback design. Let’s hope GM tries to include a few retro design cues into these new models. At least on the larger sedan. It wouldn’t seem to be that hard to come up with a really nice coupe or convertible based on the longer sedan platform.
For now, the only way you will ever be able to drive a big Eldorado convertible is to get a used one. From the 1970’s or the few that were built in the 1980’s.
Of course it’s beautiful and with that cherry red it’s stunning! GM could do eye-catching vehicles for all its brands, though I think Buick needs them most, as it’s slogan is Exceptional by Design.
