Cadillac Optiq.
Last Updated:
GM just showed the new Cadillac Optiq EV in China. And, I hate to say it, but I was expecting more…
We have already seen photos of the US version, which is the same. To me, the profile looks quite heavy., and the C-pillar is just plain weird with that strange pattern. Is that painter on the glass?
The rear end is way too busy, while the front end is a bit cleaner than the Cadillac Lyriq. But it doesn’t look more modern than the Lyriq which was introduced in 2020. I am sure the interior is quite nice since recent Cadillac interiors look pretty good. Although let’s hope they don’t squeeze that obnoxiously ridiculous giant “across the dashboard” screen. Something like the 2025 XT4 and CT5 would be great.
This is basically Cadillac’s version of the Chevrolet Equinox EV and specs should be very similar. While the base Equinox EV will start at around $35 000, this will probably be priced over the $49 000 Equinox EV 2RS FWD (The 2RS AWD starts at $ 52 400).
That would make for an expensive Compact Cadillac EV. Although the Audi Q4 e-Tron does start at $ 50,000… And of course, Tesla’s recent much lower pricing will still be quite a competition. The loaded Tesla Model Y starts at just $ 44,000. And $ 49,000 for the long-range AWD version. On top of that, by the time the new Optiq is available, the updated Model Y “Juniper” will be out. With an even better interior and many other upgrades. making life even tougher for its competition.
As I mentioned earlier, I was hoping for something more striking and original from Cadillac. It looks too much like the 3-year-old Lyriq. They need to step up their design. From what we’ve seen of Toyota and Lexus concepts, these guys are getting ready for some pretty futuristic stuff. Something like the Optiq could look quite old in just a few years…
Holy AMC Eagle!
And we’re gonna get that and we’re NOT going to get the Electra E4 which is SO MUCH better. Why do they ditch Buick and get Cadillac craps?
