While Hyundai has just released an updated version of the Ioniq 5 EV, it seems they are not done yet.
The prototype above shows a much more off-road-oriented version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Just look at these new tires. And the roof rack as well. These seem like obvious cues Hyundai is working on a Subaru competitor. Although Subaru doesn’t t really offer their own EVs yet, except for the Solterra, which is actually a Toyota bZ4-X.
I love the Ioniq 5’s design, and I have a hard time imagining what it would look like raised up with bigger tires and a roof rack. I guess that is what the new Rivian R3 could be as well. I hope Ford is working on some new off-road EV with a Bronco name. It would seem obvious but it also looks like others like Rivian, Scout, Volvo, and even Hyundai will be there first.
An off-road version of the Ioniq 5 will at least be interesting…
