Cadillac Sollei Concept.

Last Updated:

While I applaud a new Cadillac Convertible concept, the new Sollei concept is quite a disappointment.

I have been posting illustrations of what a new Cadillac Convertible could look like for a while. As possible Eldorado or even Coupe de Ville revivals. But what we have here is a 2 door convertible version of the Cadillac Celestiq, which is a huge mistake.

The first mistake, in my opinion, is a $340,000 Cadillac like the Celestiq. Now we have a car that if built would be even more expensive and exclusive. Probably competing against the $430,000 Rolls Royce Spectre. And why?

Second, it doesn’t look great. At all. Past concepts like the gorgeous Ciel Convertible were truly inspiring. Just like the Celetiq, this is just big and odd. And another billionaire toy is not what Cadillac needs right now, or ever.

Since they can’t seem to make it look special, they add ridiculous features like a “custom brushed metal and leather-wrapped case houses 3D printed acrylic bird calls, a leather-bound journal with hand-painted bird illustrations and a leather tool roll for pens and pencils, made to custom match the vehicle interior”. I mean really, can you imagine…

They have great designers and have recently proceeded by finally releasing that fantastic-looking Coupe Concept the suits were hiding from us.

Cadillac has one of the richest history in the car business and there is no excuse for something like this…

  1. It looks as though the target market is a second, sportier car for existing Celestiq customers. Sad if a $150,000 Escalade becomes Cadillac’s “entry level”, with bespoke Celestiq and Sollei models at the high end. And, seriously, why is it not called Solleiq ffs?

  2. An EV to save the planet – but featuring all of those leather covered luxury appointments? I guess saving the planet without killing a bunch of animals isn’t going to be possible.

  3. BREAKING NEWS: Cadillac presents (yet another) ridiculously overstyled one-off piece of custom vaporware for international crime lords, and you’ll never see it on the street for as long as you live! 🙄

  4. Does anyone in a large convertible really want to be reminded that there are birds in the world? LOL – heads up! (splat)

  5. love the colors and idea behind the concept. The interior is GREAT! should be in production! I dislike the front end immensely. it’s boring. need something more distinctive and imposing for a Cadillac. the side view also leaves a lot to be desired, the overall proportion and balance seems off, as if the car is sagging in the middle. Ugly, fussy wheels – should be simpler, almost beer cap design and the same color as the car!
overall, great to see a car and a convertible at that! bringing back the 1970s Eldo vibe.
