Chrysler New Yorker.

Last Updated:

Chrysler has already announced we will be seeing an all-new model next year. It will not be a production version of the Airflow concept we saw a couple of years ago. But Chrysler’s first all-new model in many years will still be an SUV.

In fact, it will be a Chrysler version of the new Jeep Wagoneer S EV based on the STLA Large platform.

They have of course shown us the gorgeous Halcyon concept a few months ago. However, unlike previous STLA concepts like the Dodge Charger, Jeep Recon, and Wagonner S, the Chrysler concept doesn’t seem like a close preview of a production car at all. Especially with its futuristic space-age interior and doors.

I previously posted a few illustrations of possible future Chrysler Imperial sedan as well as an Imperial coupe. The illustration above shows what a future Chrysler New Yorker could look like. A car that would be slightly smaller and cheaper than an Imperial.

The first Chrysler New Yorker was produced in 1940 and the last one in 1996. Through many generations, it went from a giant luxury sedan to a much smaller FWD model based on Chrysler’s LH cab forward platform.

Of course, a new EV sedan based on the STLA platform could be anything Stellantis wants. RWD, FWD, or AWD.

The Halcyon concept is actually weird since it is an enigma. the production car could look like anything. I think Chrysler could do worse than a retro-futuristic with a few older design cues.

We already know the first new Chrysler in ages will be a sedan, why not something with a cool personality? I really like the Halcyon, but I think a translation to production would be really hard to do.

Who knows…

Hmmm . . . note to Stellantis . . . perhaps consider installing a few WINDOWS into your corporate bunker . . . and use them to look out them to see what is selling in the U.S. market. HINT: It ain’t EVs or your new Wagoneers that are in short supply.

  2. Dear Automakers – not every sedan needs to have sportscar-like seating and no headroom. You make SUVs with upright windshields, but sedans must be heavily raked and so low you’ll strain your back to get out of it? Try making your sedans fit normal people again. You now have hybrids that can up your SUV mileage game. So, sedans dont need to be your super miling compliance vehicle anymore.
