Cadillac Fleetwood.

Last Updated:

Cadillac‘s last Fleetwood ended production decades ago. And yet, these 1990s models still have quite an audience in the used car marketplace.

A new one would be the largest Cadillac sedan available besides the Celestiq, but for much less. It would probably have to be priced at under $ 100,000 to be competitive against the Lucid Air, Mercedes EQS, or even the ghastly BMW i7. And not trying to be a Rolls or Bentley like the Celestiq.

The Fleetwood was one of the most luxurious cars the Cadillac ever made. For a while, the “Fleetwood” name was usually added to a more mainstream sedan like the DeVille.

In 1993, the Fleetwood became a specific model, based on the Cadillac Brougham platform. Which dated back to the late 1970s, Deville. The 1993 Fleetwood was quite a modern design when it came out. It almost looked like a weird production version of a Syd Mead design from some angles. And the master illustrator himself owned one for years.

The Fleetwood courageously held on until 1996, with sales shrinking every year. By that time, a giant RWD sedan from Cadillac wasn’t what people wanted anymore. The CT6 and XTS were on their way. And especially, the truck-based Escalade. Which somehow ended up ruling the whole Cadillac brand and became their best seller, year after year…

However, we keep hearing Cadillac is working on two all-new sedan models based on the Ultium platform.

Why not dream of a longer, more luxurious version of the largest one? A classically styled large Cadillac sedan based on the very modern Ultium architecture and powertrain.

  1. Something like this could indirectly come back, and on the the BEV Prime platform, with the two reported upcoming low-hip-point sedans, indirect successors for the CT4 and CT5. They are said to move up in size where the CT4’s replacement would be mid-sized, perhaps 5-meters in length. The larger, CT5 successor could go upsize and upmarket, to the S-Class and 7-Series, something of an EV variant of the much loved Escala concept (the two sedans are said to be fastback/liftbacks like the exclusive Celestiq). So, in ways, the larger could be something like a new take on the Fleetwood. Let’s wait and see.

  9. How about a nice version of the 1973 Eldorado two little Coupe beautiful car with half final top Chrome strip let’s go with it

  10. I’m a Grandpa with a ’70 coupe deville and a ’57 fleetwood. I’d be there first customer to order a new sedan model

  11. Papa had a 65,71, n 77 with the pull down kiddy seats. 7 of us, n my big brother always sat on the side with the radio compartment

  12. I owned my 1st ’94 Cadi Sedan Deville for 15yrs b4 I had to let it go. Cadillac repair Service Dept. wouldn’t fix it’s problems because they said, “It’s too old!” Then I found my 2nd ’94 Deville in 2024 & it just FELT RIGHT! I also own a ’20 XT6 since ’24 & it has a lot to offer & is more PRACTICAL & I can enjoy the drive & rides. If the latest newest model of the FLEETWOOD were available for a test drive, I would take up the opportunity to try one out, & see if it’s all that it’s meant to be. Until that time, I still love my ’94 & enjoy my ’20. Cadillac is always trying to keep it’s culture, reputation, and traditions going in the right direction.

  13. I miss my beautiful dark metallic green 1980 Cadillac Coupe de Ville Broughm. Drove, rode, & looked like a dream. Bought it used at 5yo, had it 5yrs then someone stole it to strip the valuable parts & the insurance wouldn’t pay to fix/replace. Very sad loss. Would love another beautiful Cadillac. For the size & the time, it actually got pretty good mpg too!
