New Cadillac XT5
Last Updated:
After 8 years the Cadillac XT5 is finally getting a new generation. In China…
The new XT5 looks a lot like any other new Cadillac SUVs from the past couple of years. And actually a bit less original than the previous one. The new XT5 is slightly larger than the outgoing model.
For years, the XT5 was Cadillac’s best-selling model. But 8 years is a long time. US sales went down to 26,800 in 2023, from a high of over 68,000 in 2017. While they still sold over 43,000 of them last year in China.
The XT5’s main competition in the US is Cadillac‘s own Lyriq EV. With over 13,000 sold so far in 2024. Or about 1000 units more than the XT5. And the Lyriq sales keep increasing every month. It will basically replace the XT5 in the US, probably just as GM had planned.
At a starting price of over $45,000, the XT5 is only a few thousand less than the Lyriq after-tax incentives. And that 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder in that $45,000 base model is just OK and nothing luxurious. It’s not even comparable in power and smoothness to the EV powertrain of the Ultium-based Cadillac Lyriq.
A few EV haters will still dream about a new XT5 in the US. But the reality is that it would be too expensive for GM to either build it over here or import a few of them from China. Especially considering the Lyriq success.
How about the US!!!???
