Alfa-Romeo Giulia.

Last Updated:

The Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV will transition to the STLA platform later this year. The Giulia sedan will actually morph into “something else”…

The Stelvio will be the first one coming in the second half of this year, followed by the Giulia sedan. The current Giulia came out first in 2015. It will be over 10 years old by the time its replacement comes out…

the illustration above shows what a different type of Guilia could look like. A slightly higher fastback sedan is similar to what Stelantis is already offering in Europe under the DS, Peugeot, and Citroen brands.

The next Giulia will be designed and produced in Italy. While the new car will be offered as an EV, it could also be available with a Hybrid powertrain.

So far, Stelantis has been pretty good at keeping its various brand’s personalities. The Fiat 600 and Lancia Ypsilon are great examples of platform sharing with very different personalities. And the new Dodge Charger does use many design cues from past Dodge models.

So far, Alfa’s return to the US hasn’t been such an amazing success, to say the least. They sold fewer than 1100 Giulias over here last year. Even back in 2018, its best year, only 11,519 were sold. As for the Stelvio, things are not much better with under 1500 units sold last year. That’s pretty sad…

Let’s hope the new platform makes these good-looking Italian cars a bit more popular. However, such low numbers don’t look good for Alfa’s American future. It almost makes no sense to seel the brand over here…
