2025 Cadillac Optiq.

Last Updated:

While we’ve only seen a couple of official photos of the new 2025 Cadillac Optiq, the new compact EV SUV is about to be fully unveiled in China.

Since we saw these photos last November, I still haven’t gotten used to it. It seems to me there is something wrong with the Optiq. Or I was just expecting something more, much more. The idea of a smaller electric Cadillac opens the mind to so many cool possibilities. What we ended up with just looks a bit heavy-handed and awkward to me.

The rear end seems to be influenced by the huge Cadillac Escalade IQ. Which isn’t great And the rest of the car is just OK…

The interior (bottom pic) looks a lot like the one in the Chinese market Cadillac GT4. (2nd from bottom). A small hatchback model only sold in China that seems to be based on the Buick Envista and Chevrolet Trax.

That interior also seems just OK. At least on the terrible grainy photo. The blue trim looks weird and so does the console. The whole thing doesn’t seem much more luxurious than its Chevrolet twin, the Equinox EV.

The Chevrolet version starts at around $35 000 and the Cadillac Optiq is expected to start at around $45 000. Competing directly against the Tesla Model Y and Audi Q4 e-tron.

I hope I am wrong and better photos and videos make the car look better, much better. Maybe other colors too, who knows?

Nobody looks their best in an Orange Julius suit. (trust me, I know…)

Perhaps, I was expecting something more like this.
